Abstract:
Collection of photographic material comprising 3 apparently unrelated groups: 3 family photograph albums depicting the descendants
of Carl Landauer, Professor of Economics at U.C. Berkeley; a collection of 19th century portraits -- primarily in the carte-de-visite
format -- of African-Americans taken by various San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento photographers, many of them from a photograph
album collected by Julia Dean; and photographs of and by Kenneth Lewis Cuthbert, an Oakland- and Berkeley-based African-American
artist who painted zoo animals. Among this material are a few postcards featuring Ansel Adams photographs of Cuthbert's paintings.
Also includes journals and other writings kept by Cuthbert.
